A ranking policeman who jumped to the help of a fellow officer that got attacked by a knife attacker received the King's Commendation for Valor.

Sergeant Tim Ansell struggled against 27-yr-old Jacob Brown after he pressed a blade to the neck of his partner Sergeant Marc Foster.

Brown launched his attack as the law enforcement personnel and their colleague, Police Constable Marcus Wolstencroft, were talking to a motorist following a traffic accident in that location in July 2023.

Brown attacked with blade the two Sgt Ansell and Sergeant Foster prior to PC Wolstencroft stopped him with a electric weapon.

"Officer knifed," the officer could be heard saying over his radio.

Officer-mounted and dashcam recording released by the police department depicted Brown, who was dressed in black with a hood covering head, rush to Sgt Foster from the rear with a weapon pointed forward.

He collided with the policeman who tripped and went down to the street, before Sergeant Ansell jumped in and struggled to restrain him to the floor although being multiple times hit with the weapon.

PC Wolstencroft drew his Taser and sought a clear shot, bringing the confrontation to an end.

Sgt Ansell was heard stating: "Please provide something on my throat here, I got knifed in the throat."

Sergeant Ansell suffered multiple lacerations to his throat and additional wounds to his limbs and body, whereas Sergeant Foster experienced cut injuries.

Officials said Sergeant Foster utilized his palms to stem his colleague's hemorrhaging prior to paramedics reached the scene.

The latest award comes subsequent to the three officers received departmental Valor Recognitions in late 2023 and the police federation award from the area Police Federation in April 2024.

They were also awarded a Area Courage Honor in mid-2024.

"The efforts of the entire team ultimately protected themselves and resulted in no bystanders experienced any harm."

Brown was given to an psychiatric detention in spring 2024, according to the department.
