Prince William Set to Attend UN Climate Conference in Brazil

The Prince of Wales plans to participate in the United Nations climate conference in South America during November, as announced by palace sources.

Prince William and King Charles made a joint appearance on Thursday night at a event leading up to the climate summit, which is set to be held in the northern Brazilian city of Belem.

Father and son were present at the scientific institution event, marking an rare public appearance together at a pre-COP30 gathering organized in partnership with the UK government.

Environmental Advocacy Dedication

King Charles has been a long-time champion of environmental conservation - and the Prince of Wales has assumed the responsibility, with his own environmental prize initiative, which will be taking place in South America preceding the climate conference.

Royal sources have characterized Prince William's attendance at the next COP as taking on an significant responsibility in "global climate discussions".

Previous Activities

The monarch and his heir, making a joint entrance in the official car, were greeted attendees such as environmentalists, researchers, environmental activists, foreign representatives and politicians.

This engagement involved presentations together with President Emmanuel Macron of the French Republic and other global statesmen at the Marine Economy Conference in the Principality of Monaco in recent months.

The UN meeting will dovetail with the the royal's Earthshot environmental awards, which will finish in the Brazilian city the eve of he joins the COP summit on 6 November.

In recent days the prince described the award contenders as "heroes of our time".

Monarch's Environmental Record

The monarch has been a prominent presence at earlier environmental conferences, delivering the inaugural speech in Dubai for the 28th Conference of Parties, including the reminder: "Our responsibility is to protect the world we inhabit".

"For decades I've committed a large proportion of my life trying to raise awareness about the critical dangers confronting humanity over climate change, global temperature increases and ecological decline," the King told participants.
